On September 13th, 2024, Bulgaria lost two honorable pilots in a tragic aviation accident at Graf Ignatievo Air Base. Major Petko Dimitrov and Senior Lieutenant Ventsislav Dunkin gave their lives in service to their country.

On this day, when we would have celebrated the birthday of our dear and respected honorary member George Vlaykov, we at the Aircrafts Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA Bulgaria) feel the sadness of his loss. This year, the sky took away from us not just a pilot, but a person whose presence left indelible marks in our community.

From September 22nd to 24th, 2023, the Sixth Air Tour of Bulgaria was held under the slogans "Preserve the Airports in Bulgaria" and "In memory of the air defenders of the Motherland - 111 years since the death of the military pilot Hristo Toprakchiev". The tour passed through the airports of Dolna Mitropoliya, Ruse, Primorsko, Mustrak, and Ihtiman. Members of AOPA Bulgaria, the Association of Ultralight Aviation in Bulgaria, and the "Bulgarian Air Force" foundation gathered for the event.

It is with deep sorrow that AOPA Bulgaria members parted ways with its honorary member, pilot and friend. In a tragic accident in the area of Lesnovo Airport on March 8, we lost Georgi Vlaykov, who was one of the most experienced instructor who trained many of the personnel in today's Bulgarian aviation. During 23rd and 25th of September AOPA Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Airforce foundation organized the fifth aviation tour of Bulgaria dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the Bulgarian military aviation, 85th anniversary of the delivery of the battle flags to the aviation formations and 25th anniversary of the Bulgarian Airforce foundation.
The tour started from Dolna Mitropolya millitary base and passed through the airfields of Balchik, Primorsko, millitary base Bezmer and finally ended at Uzundjovo Airbase.
